Cannabis as a Sleeping Medicine: Here's What you need to know

Cannabis can be an excellent help for sleeping, so many consumers have a favourite go-to at night. However, even people with the hardest insomnia can find a good indicator of their escape from the dream world. Although most consumers know that Cannabis can help you sleep well in the evening, the relationship is far more than you think. You knew that older dried Cannabis makes you more sleepy than new buds, for example? And knew you marijuana inhibits dreams?

 

Get ready to learn something about how Cannabis can help or prevent your evening winter.

1. CBD and THC have a different effects on sleep


Now you're probably aware that there are different strains, some of which are highly sensitive (high THC, low-CBD), while others don't keep your buzz to a minimum (high CBD, low-THC) (equal or near-equal parts THC and CBD). But which sleep is better?

To see what works, it doesn't hurt different testing products. However, consider trying to get a low dose of THC if CBD doesn't work for you. It might be the lullaby you needed; its hypnotic, soothing effects.

 

2. Not all strains are equal


The popular opinion would tell you that Indica strains elevate and energize heavy sleep effects. While this often happens (see our top sleeping strain), it shouldn't be the sole foundation of your selection of strains.

Notice which strains lulled you to sleep successfully. Are the THC or CBD high? Has a specific terpene profile been shown? If you keep a close eye on your favourite strains' chemical composition, you will more likely make an extra strain selection with which you are satisfied.

 

3. Natural solutions help maximize the sleeping effects of Cannabis.


Cannabis is a great way to prepare for sleep, but it can make an even more restful night when combined with other natural sleep aids. Some of them in a cannabis plant, some I add from other herbals, are highly synergistic with CBN. Hops, camomile and lavender, are also found in essential terpenes but much higher concentrations in Cannabis. This included in the medical remedy will improve the efficacy of sedation.

Think about combining it next time your preferred sleepy tension with a cup of camomile tea or a bubble bath of lavender. Sleep quality can also be increased by melatonin, 5-HTP and valerian root supplements.

 

4. You may fall asleep faster with Cannabis

Cannabis use at bedtime shows that you don't have as many dreams or vivid ones before bed. The REM time is reduced. But if you stop cannabis use for long periods, you probably will experience a "rebound REM" in which you tend to have more clear-cut dreams.

 

6. Cannabis use at night can lead to a 'hangover.'


Ever realize the morning after your nightcap that your head may feel a little dizzy? Cannabis can cause mild "hangovers" – you might feel a little foggy, dehydrated, lethargic, dry-eyed, or congested. On the other hand, maybe you never had this phenomenon (high-five).

Some users have experienced bad hangovers from smoking, vaping, or pesticide-riddled Cannabis. The best way to prevent a bad morning is to buy clean and tested Cannabis, eat healthy foods, drink plenty of water, and refrain from overindulging. Nurse a hangover much like you would an alcohol hangover.

 

7. Cannabis can improve respiration

Sleep apnea is a sleeping state with frequent breath obstructions, with lapses from a few seconds to a few minutes. Sleep apnea, you can imagine, causes the person to wake up many times during the night and causes several unpleasant ripples such as daytime sleep, fatigue, headaches, mood disturbances, carelessness, increasing susceptibility to accidents, and other health issues.

Cannabis can improve this condition, according to pre-clinical studies. The efficacy of dronabinol (a 'mimic of THC) was assessed in a 2013 study: 15 out of 17 participants following 21 days of treatment. In addition to that, the exogenous cannabinoid effectiveness was evaluated. Another study in 2002 observed that THC has been able to restore respiratory stability by modulating the signalling of serotonin. To be sure of cannabis effectiveness, we'll need more confidence from clinical studies, but researchers seem to have started well.

 

8. Long-term discontinuation may deteriorate sleep


You are probably familiar with this phenomenon if you have ever ceased to or have taken a tolerance break after long-term use of Cannabis. Perhaps you will throw and turn, wake up frequently, or feel groggy the next day.

A 2008 sleep survey found that a shorter sleep time, less slow sleep, less sleep effectiveness, shorter REM cycles, and more sleep disturbances that do not have a medicinal supply than the drug-free control group led to long-term discontinuation. Researchers, however, recognize that these findings are limited by the small sample size and the failure to determine the cause. In other words, Cannabis may have been used in the study to treat pre-existing insomnia, and the end of sleepless symptoms are reappearing.

 

9. Cannabis can cause problems in sleep at an early age


According to a survey conducted in 2014 by 1811 user-historical participants, the use of Cannabis - particularly before the age of 15 - can cause sleeping problems in the entire adult age. However, the keyword "may" – the study was impossible to determine if Cannabis caused sleep worse or if insomniacs use Cannabis more likely to sedate them. Further studies to confirm a causal relationship are necessary.

How to take a good night's sleep using Cannabis?


By smoking it as a joint or a pipe, most people ingest marijuana. If you don't smoke, try vapour devices or THC-rich tinctures, which are dropped in the tongue, protect your lungs or dislike the marijuana's signature odour. Both are common ways to sleep with marijuana.

Then we ask how much marijuana should be used. It may take some testing to get the correct dose for you – so don't try it in a working week! You want to start with a few puffs if you smoke or vape.

It's going a little far. Overdue can lead to ruggedness the following day, as mentioned before. If in the middle of the night, you must re-dose, this is okay also. But if you wake up within four hours when you need to be up, you should avoid re-dosing. Notice how you feel after smoking. Take note. Feeling "high" can range from feeling mild euphoria, slowing time, enhanced sensations such as the mouth of cotton.

 

Check your bedtime intake.

When using Cannabis, particularly in sleep, timing is essential. This is also why it rarely recommends food, pointing out that they are unreliable when they kick in. It's sometimes about an hour; sometimes it can be about two to three hours. It can have a more prolonged impact on us and cause tumult in the morning. The processing of Cannabis from our intestines to our liver makes it much longer, like 8 to 12 hours.

Although the physiology of everyone is different, at least an hour before bedtime, it is usually better to eat marijuana. One hour before you go to bed, says Tishler, is ideal since the Cannabis works for about 3 to 4 hours to help you sleep. So people do not sense the effects when they sleep, so excitement and sleep can be avoided.

 

Keep this in mind before you sleep:


Naturally, not all sleep aids work in the same way for all. Nothing's different about marijuana. A growing incidence of myocardial infarction should prevent people with recent heart attacks or poor cardiovascular health from consuming Cannabis.

Moreover, some people feel that high THC strain causes them more anxiety or paranoia, although Cannabis is often used to reduce stress. You can experiment with different strains when you are one of those people or let your dispensary know your strains. For example, you may discover that another cannabis can cause sleep without increasing your anxiety.

Further research is coming on marijuana. This herb — which in some states is lawful and still illegal in some countries - has many different medicinal effects and can work with far fewer side effects and other medicines.

While alcohol-based sleep disorder is investigated, the effects of marijuana on sleep and health must be better understood. However, it is a short-term fix to use marijuana to help you sleep. To sleep relaxed, you will want to practice good sleep hygiene and incorporate other behaviors which promote good sleep.
